Traditional Shipibo Healers (From Ucayali, Peru)

The ceremonies at Angel of Life Sanctuary are guided in collaboration with traditional healers from the Shipibo-Konibo lineage of the Peruvian Amazon, one of the most widely respected living healing traditions of the rainforest.

The Shipibo people come primarily from the Ucayali River region, where plant knowledge has been passed down through generations of curanderos (healers). Within this tradition, healing is understood not only as physical, but also energetic and spiritual in nature.

A central element of Shipibo healing work is the use of icaros — sacred songs that function as vibrational medicine. These songs are learned through years of disciplined training and are used during ceremony to guide, cleanse, and harmonize the energetic body.

Training within the Shipibo tradition is rooted in plant dietas, extended periods of isolation in the forest with master plants, and long apprenticeships under elder maestros. Through these processes, practitioners learn to listen to the intelligence of the plants and develop the sensitivity required to work safely and responsibly in ceremonial space.

The Shipibo curanderos and assistants who collaborate with Angel of Life Sanctuary carry forward this lineage with humility and dedication. Their role within ceremony is to hold the space through song, prayer, and energetic guidance, while supporting participants in processes of purification, insight, and integration.

This tradition emphasizes discipline, respect for the plants, and personal responsibility before, during, and after ceremony. The work is not approached as spectacle, but as a careful and structured process rooted in centuries of Amazonian knowledge.
